Rack and pinion drives with hydraulic cylinders

Rack and pinion drives are popular in applications where numerous threads need to be removed from a plastic mold simultaneously. This is often accomplished using a hydraulic cylinder. This application is surprisingly challenging with regard to the hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic cylinder must generate an enormous force during demolding and experiences no load at all in the opposite direction. This disparity often creates major issues for the sealing system. Since the cylinder is installed in a vertical position at the top of the mold, any leakage would be unacceptable.
